Due to the restrictions of the 10th of January 2021, all foreign workers need to have a legitimate purpose for crossing the Danish border, as well as a Covid-19 test with a negative result. The test has to be taken within 24 hours before crossing the border.
If you fail to meet the requirements as a foreign worker, there is a chance you will be denied access to the country.
Freight transport does not require a negative corona test
At the first closing of borders, the authorities acknowledged transporting goods to be a legitimate purpose for crossing the border, which means that all nationalities could cross the border as long as they did it to import or export goods. It will still be possible to enter Denmark – even without providing a negative corona test, done within the 24-hour limit.

Drivers from the UK and South Africa must present a negative test
Meaning, that any truck driver importing or exporting goods can cross the Danish border, no matter if you are Danish or foreign. That is, unless you have a Britannic citizenship. If you transport goods from Great Britain, you have to provide the negative test, because of the new virus mutation originally found in England. The same goes for drivers coming from South Africa, as there has also been a mutation in that region which the Danish authorities try to keep out of the country.
If you cross the Danish boarder often, you should be tested once a week
On the press conference of the 9th of January 2021 those restrictions and exceptions were made public, while the authorities also recommended that long-distance truck drivers living in the countries closest to Denmark, and who often cross the borders, should be tested at least once a week to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. With countless different types of testing, it can be difficult to recognize witch test(s) are accepted by the border, and we recommend that you make sure you have the right one before heading towards Denmark.
So how do you make sure you are not rejected at the border?
First of all, there is a demand that the test result is done in a certain language. To have your test approved, the result needs to be in one of the following languages:
- Danish
- Swedish
- Norwegian
- German
- English
- France
- Spanish
- Italian
The police are allowed to deny you access to Denmark, even if you have a negative test result of a Covid-19 test, if the result is written in any other language than the ones above. In addition to the question of which tests are approved, you can safely do either the PCR-test or the antigen test, as long as your name, the date and time of testing as well as the issuer of the certificate is clearly stated on the document.
You must be able to document that you travel in connection with occupation
Remember that the test rules do not apply to you who are a freight transport driver. However, it is a requirement that you can document at the border that you cross the border in connection with the work.
Flying or driving to Denmark requires a negative test
Please keep in mind that the test demands do not apply to you as a truck driver delivering goods. However, you need to have documentation stating that you are crossing the border to work, as you still need to prove you have a legitimate purpose entering Denmark.
If you are flying into Denmark to pick up and export goods by truck, you do however need to provide a negative Covid-19 test at the airport, as they are allowed to keep you from boarding the plane. You have to get tested within 24 hours of boarding the plane in order for the test to be legitimate. If someone else is driving you across the border in a private car, this person also has to provide a negative test along with a legitimate purpose for entering Denmark. Driving you somewhere, so you can pick up a truck is not considered a legitimate purpose.
